Traffic over time
Pageviews per day. Spikes are almost always one referrer — check the table below to see which.
The read-through funnel, per post
Views → reached halfway → reached the end. A post with lots of views and a short bar is a headline that outran its opening; a post with a long bar and few views is a distribution problem, not a writing problem.
What people did next
Clicks on calls-to-action and outbound links. This is the number that turns readers into conversations.

01The weekly review, in four questions
A dashboard that isn’t attached to a decision is just a screensaver. Once a week, in about five minutes:
Did anything reach a new audience? Look at referrers, not totals. One Hacker News or newsletter link outweighs a month of drift, and it tells you which topic travels.
Which post held people to the end? Read-through is the honest quality signal — views measure the headline, completion measures the writing. Write more of whatever finishes.
Did anyone act? Email clicks and résumé/GitHub outbounds are the conversion. If reach is climbing and actions are flat, the problem is the ask, not the traffic.
What is the next post? Pick it from the top of the read-through list, not from what you feel like writing. The audience already voted.
02What is being counted
The events below fire on every page. They are deliberately few — enough to answer the four questions, not enough to build a profile of anyone. All of it is cookieless and anonymous.
| Event | Fires when | Answers |
|---|---|---|
read-half-<slug> | A reader passes 50% of a post | Did the opening hold? |
read-end-<slug> | A reader reaches the end | Did the piece deliver? |
cta-<label> | Any tagged button is clicked | Which ask works? |
contact-email | An email link is clicked | The conversion |
outbound-<domain> | A link off the site is followed | GitHub / LinkedIn pull-through |
read-post-<slug> | A post is opened from another page | Which cards earn the click? |
Notes
This console reads the file locally with FileReader; nothing is transmitted, which is why it works offline and why it is safe to use with an export that contains referrer data. Column names are matched loosely, so GoatCounter format changes are unlikely to break it — if a chart is empty, the status line above will say which column it could not find.
